Accreditation of analytical, microbiological and medical laboratories - ISO/IEC 17025:2017 & ISO 15189:2012

A two-day training workshop by the Pancyprian Union of Chemists and the Eurachem Education & Training Working Group

PUCThe Division of Quality Assurance of the Pancyprian Union of Chemists (PUC) and Eurachem organised a sucessful two-day training course on the accreditation of laboratories. Approximately 45 delegates attended. The event followed a series of training activities on ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 15189:2012. The workshop considered critical issues in ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 15189, and provided the opportunity for interaction between accreditation body staff and with laboratory personnel. Other standards and guides (including Eurachem guides) were also discussed.

This event was dedicated to the memory of Mary Eleftheriadou, a life-long contributor to PUC.

Following the successful events of the last years, the Division of Quality Assurance of the Pancyprian Union of Chemists (PUC) and the Eurachem Education & Training Working Group organised a two-day training programme on "Accreditation of Analytical, Microbiological and Medical Laboratories - ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and ISO 15189:2012". The programme was hosted in Nicosia on 20 -21 February 2020. This was the second time that such a training programme was co-organised by PUC and Eurachem. The previous training was organised in February 2019.

The 45 participants came from eleven countries (Armenia, Belarus, Germany, Greece, Italy, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Lithuania, Palestine, Singapore and Cyprus). The speakers (Vicki Barwick, Stephen Ellison, Lorens Sibbesen, Irini Leimoni, George Papageorgiou, Rodothea Koniotou and Kyriacos Tsimillis) presented most of the issues of interest for laboratories in the light of the implementation of ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and the expected revision of ISO 15189.

The participants were encouraged to present their experience, problems and solutions regarding measurement uncertainty, method validation and the transition to the revised ISO/IEC 17025. This gave an additional opportunity for the active involvement in discussions.
